HIV/AIDS Positive Kids in Shelters
A significant portion of the kids are HIV/AIDS positive. Disease and abject poverty often result in either the abandonment or prostitution of the child. These shelters provides them with lodging, food, medical attention, education, and a loving social environment.
Nearly one-third of the kids in our shelters, which are in southern India, are infected with HIV/AIDS. In trying to pay for food and shelter, many families resort to prostitution—parents and children alike.
Prospects
One of our shelters in India is a traditional model: a home with 19 boys who are fed and get a secular and biblical education. In 2022, with the help of sponsors, we finished building a permanent, co-ed shelter near the shelter director’s church so they can move out of a rented home.
Our other “shelter” is different. A pastor delivers food and nutrients to over 34 people (mostly families) three times a week, with 41% being HIV/AIDS positive. He frequently invites them to his church and hosts them for meals at his home. We are exploring ways to provide a permanent location for his ministry.
