Nepal Shelter Director Helps Flooded Community

Within the last month, parts of Nepal experienced deadly landslides and floods. In addition to COVID-19 and its accompanying lockdowns, this destruction eliminated much of the progress made since the devastating 2015 earthquake. These back-to-back disasters have created much hardship for the Nepalese people.

Our shelter director in Nepal has, yet again, stepped up to the plate and provided invaluable help and services—this time, to those affected by these most recent floods. Below is an update from him detailing the relief efforts he is participating in:

Many believers from our networking churches and other people who depend on daily wages for their living were having a tough time due to the lockdown. Thanks to your help, the believers and nonbelievers, daily wage earners, including pregnant women (abandoned by their husbands), the helpless older people, physically disabled, visually impaired, and the sick people got supplies, medicines, check-ups, and other help according to their needs.

People in Sindhupalchowk District who had a traumatic loss from an earthquake a couple of years ago also struggled with the COVID situation like everyone. And now the flood on top of it took all their efforts back to rock bottom. Many lost their homes, farms, livestock, and even their families, and some even committed suicide because of this tragedy. The flood destroyed roads, overhead power lines, schools, bridges, and drinking water dams. Thanks to your support, we were able to reach out to believers and nonbelievers during their time of need. We provided daily supplies, medicines, mattresses, quilts, kitchen utensils, solar lights, tents, tin sheets, mosquito nets, clothes, and cash assistance to the flood victims.

All of this has built positive Christian influence in society. During the relief distribution, our network leaders have had the opportunity to share the gospel with 273 people in various locations, where 27 people have accepted Lord Jesus as their Savior. Your continuous prayer and support, with love, have helped the people meet their needs and receive the message of Christ’s unfailing love.

The monsoon has just started, and the risk for more damage is still there, therefore, please continue to pray for the safety and restoration of Sindhupalchowk.

In this update, he included a video (available below) with footage of the destruction from the flood, as well as the aid they provided to those in need.

From chartering a helicopter for delivering supplies to wading through knee-high flood waters, this network of churches has had a remarkable impact. We are proud that our shelter director has been a leader in these efforts.
